In September 2017 we brought the story of the national parks of Aotearoa New Zealand to Beijing, China. It was hosted at the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture, and shows the ways the National Park idea has evolved over the last 130 years in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This invited two month exhibition was funded by Chinese government agencies leading a pilot programme to establish a single national agency for China’s protected areas, and seeking to draw on NZ’s international leadership in protected areas development. Opened by NZ’s ambassador to China, it attracted over 50,000 visitors, and included co-convening a China NZ Protected Areas Research Symposium involving Chinese Universities and Government Agencies.
