WildLab Field Guide to Designing Great Storytelling Panels
WildLab Team
For over a decade we’ve been designing storytelling panels that connect people with nature. This guide shares the principles behind our work—how good design and strong stories can inspire, build connection, and help communities bring the values of Te Taiao to life.
"Every story needs a hero. A well-presented hero can help your audience form an emotional attachment to your story. Each panel should be centred around a hero - be it the mountain, a tree, or the bird... This will act as a focal point in keeping your audience engaged and invested, as they want to read and learn more about what happens next."

We’re often asked what drives our design process. It’s this question that prompted us to share this guide for great storytelling panel design. And to help explain these tips we’ve included a range of case studies taken from our work to showcase how these tips can be applied in real-life contexts. We hope you find inspiration in this guide – we’d love to hear your comments and ideas, and also any tips you consider important too!
