Guide Hill Station is located in the heart of Te Manahuna, the Mackenzie Basin. The station is set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Pūkaki and Aoraki Mount Cook, and is a jewel to the region. It is home to many special treasures – a rich sheep farming heritage, spectacular mountains, amazing blue lakes and precious wildlife and ecosystems found nowhere else in the world. How might these treasures be shared with visitors, so they can too appreciate and celebrate all that this place has to offer?
THE OUTCOME
Working closely with the project team, WildLab developed a Master Plan for the development of the site to include a restoration planting strategy, infrastructure upgrade, visitor accommodation units, a restaurant, chapel and stargazing experiences, horse stables and a research facility. was provided for Lincoln University science students. Being central to this development is the ecological restoration of the Black Hole Lake Significant Natural Area.
